pigeon-holed into genres and sub-genres of racing a mountain bike. Downhilling involved a timed hillclimb.
So here’s the challenge: complete four races across all genres of modern mountain biking. To be competitive in the overall requires speed going down and up–from flow to technical trails, you’ve got to be able to do it all. All races carry points toward an overall title.
This race is open to all, and we’d love to see some new faces out there. In order to make it more accessible, we’ve tried to keep the cost of entry down. And, you don’t need an OBRA license to race. http://mountainmanchallenge.com

The fourth annual Barrel to Keg Relay will be held on Saturday, July 12th, 2014. Starting at the Harris Bridge Vineyard in Philomath, Oregon, this scenic relay goes through the beautiful back country of the Oregon Coast Range, crosses over the majestic Yaquina Bay Bridge and finishes at the famous Rogue Ales Brewery at Newport’s South Beach Marina. Teams of two to seven runners split the 111K (69 mile) distance over 14 legs. Teams of two to seven walkers cover 7 legs (51K). Solo ultra runners are welcome, too.

Alpenrose's Dairyville, the free family fun pioneer town is back!

A Portland tradition for over 50 years, kids and adults flock to the streets of Dairyville during the summer months to explore this fun pioneer exhibit. Visitors can peek into Grandma's Bakery, the Great Western Bank, the Dairyville School, and the Post Office. Kids can watch model trains chug through tiny Oregon landscapes and learn from some of the area's train experts. And no Dairyville visit would be complete without stopping off at the Ice Cream Parlor for a delicious Alpenrose ice cream cone.

Coos Art Museum will be exhibiting the Expressions West 2013 juried painting competition. Artists from thirteen western states are invited to compete in this annual event. Juror John Hewitt selected sixty-nine recent paintings by fifty-four artists residing in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington.
The opening reception for Expressions West 2013 will take place on May 31 from 5 to 7 pm. The public is invited to attend; we expect many of the participating artists will be present. An awards ceremony begins at 6 PM and John Hewitt will present the prize awards for the competition. The three prizes are $1,000 for first place, $750 for second place and $250 for the third place award. Honorable mentions will also be announced during the ceremony. Come meet the artists and juror at the opening reception.
John Hewitt is a signature member of many prestigious watercolor groups including the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, Watercolor West and Kentucky Watercolor Society. He studied with California master painters Vernon Nye, George Post and Millard Sheets and has taught at College of the Redwoods, PacificUnion College and workshops throughout the West Coast and Europe.

Coos Art Museum has been a cultural focal point of Oregon’s scenic Southern Coast since 1966. It occupies an historic 1936 Art Deco US Federal Building in downtown CoosBay. The Museum offers a wide range of arts activities including exhibitions, art classes and lectures. Hours are 10:00am to 4:00pm, Tuesday through Friday and 1:00 to 4:00 pm on Saturday. school camp (ages 7-11) will be
9AM-12PM and will include dance
workshops, fun improv games and
rehersals. Tuition is $80. Grade
School Campers must have completed
first grade (no exceptions). Middle/High
School camp ( ages 12 & up)
will be 9AM-2:30PM and will include
many fun workshops. Tuition is $130.
Both camps include a performance
Friday night on the main stage to
showcase what campers have learned
during the week. All Campers receive
a free T-shirt.
