Oregon's treasures unfold at the Douglas County Museum of
History and Natural History where exciting exhibits portray the wonder of nature
and our legendary past. See the tools native people used before Mt. Mazama
erupted creating Crater Lake. Discover the Umpqua River which nourishes our
people, forests, animals and landscape. From the Cascade Mountains to the ocean
beaches and the hidden world of plants and animals on the forest floor you can
view natural history. Native wildlife is represented in full splendor as an
immense Roosevelt Elk peers from the beauty of Douglas County's old growth
wilderness. Nature becomes a hands-on experience for all ages in the Children's
Discovery Room. Travel the Applegate Trail and encounter the hardships of early
Euro-American settlers in the west.
