The Oregon Coast Aquarium Offers Extended Hours for Spring Break

Newport, Oregon— “There is nothing like shaking hands with the largest species of octopus in the world, or waking up in the Passages of the Deep tunnels surrounded by dozens of sharks,” said Wendy Spaulding, Education Programs Coordinator for the Oregon Coast Aquarium.
Starting Saturday, March 23 through Sunday, April 7 the Aquarium’s doors will open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., extending its regular winter hours, to accommodate travelers over the spring break holiday.
The Aquarium staff encourage visitors to take in the sights and smells of spring flowers with the stroll through the frequently overlooked Aquarium Gardens. The sprawling naturescape features labeled native plants for viewers to brush up on their botany. Careful observers can spot local wildlife that choose to make the Gardens home.
To make the most of their visit at the Aquarium, guests may book a Behind the Scenes Tour on Saturdays at 1 p.m. or an Octopus Encounter, available Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 11:30 a.m.
The Aquarium will also host one of its popular Family Combo Sleepovers on Friday, March 29. Available for guests ages six and older, the experience features a scavenger hunt, Behind the Scenes tour and the opportunity to slumber inside the tunnels of Passages of the Deep.

51st Alpenrose Dairy Easter Egg Hunt; Portland, OR
March 30, 2013
PORTLAND OR – Last year Alpenrose Dairy Easter Egg Hunt got rained out for the FIRST time in 50 years, but the Annual Easter Egg Hunt is back on for the 51 st year which will take place March 30 th the Saturday before Easter.
What can you anticipate? Excitement is a definite as well as a colossal amount of prizes for the kids and let’s not forget…an appearance by the world famous Easter Bunny.
This free event is hosted by Alpenrose on the pastoral setting of the 97-year old dairy and has become a special treat and tradition for families and their kids since 1962. The vast amount of acreage at the dairy makes it an idyllic setting for the hunt and families often make this an entire day event by packing a picnic lunch.
The day’s egg-citement begins at 10:30 AM for kids ages 3-5 as they hunt for chocolate eggs, toys and other fun treats. The hunt for kids ages 6-8 will begin at 12:00 PM. The Grand Prize for kids will be 14 six-foot Easter bunnies. Children often end up with a bevy of treasures from the hunt.
“Hosting the Easter Egg Hunt is a real thrill for us and given the fact that we had to cancel due to the rains last year this years hunt is even more special to all of us at Alpenrose,” stated Alpenrose President, Carl Cadonau Jr. “It celebrates 51 years of what Alpenrose loves most, giving back to the community. It’s great to see how our event has become such a great family tradition here in Portland and we look forward to all the kids coming out and filling their baskets.”
Alpenrose officials are encouraging egg-hunters to arrive early since parking is limited. Alpenrose Dairy is located at 6149 SW Shattuck Road in Portland.

Quilters is the story of a pioneer woman and her six daughters, which blends a series of interrelated scenes into a rich mosaic which captures the sweep and beauty, the terror and joy, the harsh challenge and abiding rewards of frontier life. Illuminating stories contained in various patches or "blocks" with music, dance and drama, the action depicts the lot of women on the frontier: girlhood, marriage, childbirth, spinsterhood, twisters, fire, illness and death. But, with this, there is also love, warmth, rich and lively humor and the moving spectacle of simple human dignity and steadfastness in the face of adversity. In the end, when the various patches are assembled into one glorious, brilliantly colorful quilt, the effect is both breathtaking and magical—and a theatrical masterstroke which will linger in the mind and memory long after the house lights have dimmed.

Costumers Needed for The Wiz

We are in need of a lead costumer for The Wiz . What does this mean? The lead costumer is basically the person who helps to administrate the director’s overall vision for costumes for a show. It does not mean you will be sewing all the costumes and doing all the work. Our costume shop manager, Antonia Osterhout will assist with the process and you’ll have access to our well stocked costume shop. We have several dedicated regular helpers who can sew costumes and do projects but we often have a difficult time getting someone to be the “lead.” If you are interested, please contact the director, Mark Pederson at pastormcp@yahoo.com . If you have costuming questions, please contact Antonia at gallerycostumeshop@onlinemac.com .
