Debbie Lind of Wallowa, Oregon, has been writing poems, lyrics and children stories for over 25 years, but she only recently published this, her first book of poetry, in order to preserve the memories of childhood school days.

The book began on October afternoon on the playground at Wallowa Elementary School, where Debbie, who works at the school as a paraprofessional, saw a third grader named Kady playing with her shadow.  This inspired Debbie to write the poem "I Can't Catch My Shadow" and give it to Kady.  Through the school year she continued writing, and by June she had written over 100 poems about the children, teachers, seasons, staff members, and even the playground equipment at Wallowa Elementary.  Some of these poems along with illustrations by Anna Seamon and the children are now collected in Volume I: Fall.
